The first birch leaves have begun to fall
Autumn
The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up,
as if orchards were dying high in space.
Each leaf falls as if it were motioning “no.”
And tonight the heavy earth is falling
away from all other stars in the loneliness.
We’re all falling. This hand here is falling.
And look at the other one. . . It’s in them all.
And yet there is Someone, whose hands,
infinitely calm, hold up all this falling.
- Rainer Maria Rilke

An atmospheric autumn morning at home
Autumn is short and sweet here and we are already on the cusp of winter but we have been surrounded by Autumn’s special beauty for the past few weeks. Here are a few more photos:

The lake down the road surrounded by a ring of bright red alder leaves

The very same lake, sparkling in the autumn sun

Oregon Grape - the reddest of all our fall foliage. No maples here, which isn't fair; this being Canada and all

Rosehips - so tasty after the frosts; I've been warming up with cups of rosehip tea
Great photos. That lake looks very inviting, a great place to sit in solitude.
lovely time of year and always looks better for the blue sky, we seem to be a bit short of it here but when its blue here we live in such wonderful world. best wishes vicki
